Preparing for Easter?
These are 6 outstanding wines for the
Easter Day celebrations!!!

"I always start a festive meal with Champagne.

Champagne gets the senses going and lets everyone know – it is a special occasion. I like to drink it throughout the meal, especially if the wines that show up are less than interesting.

This one is VERY Interesting… keep pouring!

2008 R. H. Coutier Brut Millesime Grand Cru Ambonnay Champagne

From the lauded 2008 vintage comes this golden hued vintage Champagne made from 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, nearly the exact breakdown of Coutier plantings. Lightly toasted with complex aromas of yellow fruit and a palate that is both rich and taut. Round and fresh on the finish."

93 Points - Vinous Media
"Coutier's 2008 Brut Grand Cru is interesting to taste next to the Grands Vintages. Here the brightness, focus and tension of the 2008 vintage are front and center. Lemon peel, white, flowers, mint and chalky notes infuse this bright, finely sculpted Champagne. The interplay of Ambonnay Pinot with Chardonnay, along with the chiseled style of the year adds up a compelling and absolutely delicious bottle of Champagne. I very much like the sense of energy here. Disgorged: June 2016. Dosage: 6 gr/l."

"If your Easter involves seafood, I hope Lobster is a part of it. Nothing better than a great Pouilly Fuisse, with all shell fish in fact…

2016 Dominique Cornin, Pouilly Fuisse

Organic, Biodynamic

An amazing intense nose of exotic citrus and white pepper spice, chalky stone and beeswax that simply explode on your palate in an ethereal symphony of spice and stone fruit essence.

A variation of limestone, clay and alluvial soils; Vines planted between 1909 and 1965 in Chaintré and Fuissé; Fermentated in thermoregulated tanks. The wine continues to age in these tanks for approximately 10 months before bottling. Less than 5% aged in neutral oak barrels."

"For the Off-Dry Folks and for the educated palate - a mouthwatering great Riesling from the master of the Mosel in Germany, Joannes Selbach.

2016 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett

Today, Johannes Selbach and his wife Barbara, with the increasing help of son Sebastian, manage their vineyards and winery with passion and respect for the estate’s long held traditions.

Johannes, like his late father Hans, has continued the use of traditional oak fuder in his cellar, bringing in new large casks every few years. Vinification is carried out in a combination of fuder and stainless steel, in an hands-off manner with no fining, and predominantly with wild yeasts. The focus is on meticulous work in the vineyard with the aim to produce and bring home perfect fruit.

“Selbach aims for a typical modern Mosel style, which reflects the minerality of the rocky Devonian slate soils, as well as the elegance and finesse of the Riesling fruit in clear, crisp, elegant, low-alcohol, yet full-flavored handcrafted wines,” says Stephan Reinhardt, in The Finest Wines of Germany."

94 Points - James Suckling
"Super-cool and super-delicate wine with great depth and wonderful balance. A blast of freshness that makes most white wines seem like yesterday’s news. Should be exciting at least until 2030." June/2017

"Barolo is for Kings!

2013 Barolo, Monfalletto, Cordero di Montezemolo

At the very heart of the Langhe, square in the center of the Barolo region, there is a cedar tree that has stood over 30 hectares of vines for 150 years. Year after year, this prized stretch of land works silently to produce some of the wines that have made Piedmont famous all over the world.

The Monfalletto estate belonged to the noble Falletti family for over six centuries before becoming the property of Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children, Elena and Alberto. In 1940, the farmland was handed down to the next eligible heir Paolo Cordero di Montezemolo (father of Giovanni), grandson of the Marchioness Luigia Falletti, who for years had helped his grandmother take care of the vineyards and process the grapes. In the years afterwards, Paolo provided the major push in research and experimentation in wine making and wine tasting, as well as in marketing the company's wine on a global scale, which until then had only been limited to regional sales.

Today Monfalletto – Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the most historic and dynamic presences in the Barolo area, with highly esteemed products that are exported and appreciated around the world."

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"Wild berry, aromatic herb, crushed blue flower and exotic spice aromas lead the way in this full-bodied wine. It delivers ripe but elegant Marasca cherry, cranberry, licorice and vanilla hints framed by taut, fine-grained tannins that lend structure and finesse. Drink 2021–2033."

"Here’s a great Chateauneuf Blend from California…
the Locations “CA” Wine – any wine fit for a Pope is always welcome on Easter.

Locations CA-5, Dave Phinney, (Orin Swift Cellars)

European License Plate wines are on Fire! Geographic diversity is what Locations wines are all about.

Dave Phinney (Orin Swift Cellars) has a series of new wines being added to his License Plate Wine Empire.

We’ve Had “E” = Spain; “I” = Italy; “F” = France… All have been Phenomenal values.

WELCOME: "CA" = California (If California had a European License plate, this would be it.)

Inky and intense, Veiled in dark ruby red, this wine bursts with a tempting perfume of red and black fruits, dried rose petals, and a peppery note which offers some lift.

Dense and ripe upon the first pass, it evolves into a savory compote of raspberry, kirsch, and bitter cherry balanced out with mineral and herbal notes.

I find this QUITE Similar to ABSTRACT in it's taste and complexity.

PLENTY OF “CA” to go around....

Win – Win!!!!"

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The least expensive wines in Dave Phinney's mine are his Locations portfolio. I tasted two of them. The NV Proprietary Red CA-5, which is a 15,000-case cuvee, all from 2015. It is a blend from diverse California areas, ranging from Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino to the Sierra Foothills, of Tempranillo, Barbera, Petite Sirah and Grenache. This is an outstanding wine, the kind of bistro/brasserie red that consumers will love. Opaque deep ruby/purple, it is loaded with intense wild berry fruit and a Zinfandel-like briariness, offering pepper, herbs, a touch of smoke and loads of black fruits and background oak. This is a big boy at 15.5% alcohol, but it's not the least hot – just savory, luscious and opulent. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."

"Cab is still King in the USA... and Plumpjack is Royalty.

Plumpjack, Cade, Odette and now Adaptation by Odette.

2015 Adaptation by Odette Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Adaptation hails from the old Stelzner property in Stag's Leap District that's been converted over to Organic Farming as of 2011-2012.

Owned by the same family that owns Plumpjack and Cade, Adaptation is a great value $50 cab that'll have you shocked that this kind of quality exists.

Tucked into the dramatic palisades of the Stags Leap District, sits Odette Estate on 45 voluptuous acres. As the newest addition to the beloved region, Odette looks to serve as a “breath of fresh air” to the historic District. Contemporary architecture and design, paired with a contemporary stance on environmental responsibility, Odette is symbolic of the future of Stags Leap. With its two sister properties, PlumpJack and CADE (located in Oakville and Howell Mountain respectively), Odette rounds out the trio of wineries committed to producing full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignons that are notable for the combination of power and elegance, while simultaneously showcasing the unique properties of the AVA.

The 2015 Adaptation Cabernet Sauvignon redefines approachability - a fusion of fruit flavors that include wild blackberries, mulberries, sweet cherries and cocoa dipped blueberries invade your senses followed by wispy notes of forest floor and bittersweet chocolate. An exuberant, multi-dimensional mouthfeel is complemented by dynamic acidity that forges freshness, energy and length to the palate. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot."
