Ted's pick... Spring White to brighten your Springtime:
"Borealis White Blend from Willamette Valley Oregon - Killer Value!

Spring is on the calendar and hopefully in your part of the Country. Time to find some fresh new whites!! It’s a bit behind schedule here in NY as evidenced by my return to NY on Monday with a very welcoming 31 degrees.

BRRRRR.

Slated to warm up over the next week, I’m searching GREAT VALUE Whites!

Here’s a great white wine blend everyone should try as we flip from Winter to Spring.

Borealis, Willamette Valley White Wine Blend.

The aroma practically covers the full fruit spectrum with notes of peach, yellow apple, pineapple and with bright citrus popping out, accented with whiffs of cut hay and fresh flowers.

On the palate it starts with a soft, slightly sweet expression of ripe fruit of peach and pear with a crisp acid balance and citrus zing, which evolves to a delicious long, crisp finish of grapefruit and lime. Blend: 38% Muller-Thurgau, 32% Gewurztraminer, 19% Riesling, 11% Pinot Gris.

That’s a Serious WHITE BLEND…

Hailing form the Willamette Valley, BOREALIS white is an awesome white that reminds me of Alsace with a touch of sweetness in the right places. Think of this as an appetizer, crispy white that will go great with seafood and salads and all sorts of Spring meals. Well balanced and clean. For the first time, they are going with a Multi-vintage blend… As long as the wine is great like this, go for it!"

Ted's pick... You have to try this Lambrusco "Concert" by Medici Ermete!
"Riunite did a lot of damage to the Lambrusco image here in the USA. Unfortunately, 90% of Americans think Lambrusco is cheap & sweet! That’s slowly reversing course thanks to the efforts of revolutionaries the Medici family.

23 years old, Allessandro Medici is the Worldwide Brand Ambassador for Medici Ermete Lambrusco, exporting to over 70 Countries worldwide. Alessandro is showing that Lambrusco can be Great, Dry, Flavorful! Their “Concerto” Lambrusco is the world’s first Single Vineyard & Single Vintage Lambrusco.

A sparkling dry red wine, with lively bubbles achieved through “natural fermentation.” Grapes from the prestigious Tenuta La Rampata vineyard in Reggio Emilia province are grown on Cordone Speronato (cordon trained and spur pruned) vines in clay soil with highly limited yields.

I think of it like a solid medium bodied dry red with refreshing bubbles that goes great with the classic cuisine of EMILIA ROMAGNA!

South of Venice and North of Tuscany, Emilia Romagna is the foodies paradise capital of the world. The BEST Cheeses, Meats, BALSAMICO’s come from here. I just spent 3 days in Modena and 3 days in Bologna testing out the cuisines… my advice is GO!

The bubbles in this delicious Lambrusco go perfectly with FAT: Sausages, Mortadella, Salami, Bone Marrow, Slow cooked Hare, Osso Bucco!

Great press…

90 points - Wine & Spirits
This wine’s glass-staining magenta hue signals densely concentrated flavors of ripe plum, crushed raspberry and black cherry. A black loam earthiness underlies those fruit flavors, and a firm mousse propels the flavors forward to a refreshing finish."

90 points - Wine Enthusiast
"This refreshing, racy, frothy and focused red delivers raspberry, strawberry, orange zest, white pepper and dried black-cherry aromas and flavors. Made from 100% Lambrusco Salamino, it's vibrant, with a crisp, dry finish.

Grab a SIX PACK!

Ted's pick... 2016 Elio Altare Barbera D'Alba Stellar Italian Red
"Visiting with Sylvia Altare last weekend, we got to try a lot of great wines.

Her best values:

Awesome Barbera D'Alba!

Elio Altare makes several $100+ Barolo's but their Barbera is a steal for $20!

2016 Barbera D'Alba, Elio Altare

Planted at the top of the slope in La Morra, this has gorgeous finesse.

Of the best values that I sell...

I would say that this is a back-up-the-truck house wine case buy moment, folks... both the Dolcetto and Barbera are about as good as it gets for the money in everyday food friendly red wine.

The Barbera is always a bit paler in color than the Dolcetto, with a gorgeous driving mineral core. I usually prefer the Barbera's finesse to the Dolcetto's bigness. But I buy both of them…

Ruby red with violet reflections in the glass. Gorgeous aromas of violets and black cherry. Warm, full bodied, with the right acidity, nice long finish of dark red fruits.

As good as it gets in Piedmont…

Ted's pick... Newton Claret Red Over-Performs.....
.....for $18+ Full Bodied, Rich, Dense! Wuh!

Tasting wines is how I find the TRUE values.

A wine that has been swinging above it’s price-point for several vintages is my deal of the day.

2014 Newton Claret, Red Wine Blend, Sonoma County

Wuh!!!

Opaque red color, extremely rich and ripe with aromas of blackcurrant, boysenberry, blackberry and black cherry all intermingling with notes of vanilla, sweet spice and oak.

The fruit in this wine for $18+ is astounding.

An exotic blend that caresses the palate where the wine is balanced and bright, with round supple tannins and a long lingering finish. 74% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Syrah, 4% Petit Sirah, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot

That’s quite a blend…

Not a wimpy wine, this would be great with anything off the grill.

Carolina barbeque-style ribs by a fire pit, Jamaican Jerk chicken on the beach or vegetarian sausages at home.

The fruit sourced for the 2014 Red Label Claret hails from Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley and Carneros.

As prices for premium California reds continue up the roller coaster… it’s great to sell values like this one!

Newton Vineyard was named by Robert Parker as one of the World’s 100 Greatest Wine Estates. It is a spectacular winery with terraced vineyards, on the dramatic slopes of Spring Mountain. The winery is known for naturally fermented, unfiltered wines handcrafted with estate-grown fruit from Spring Mountain and Carneros.

Don’t miss this great deal!

Ted's Luxury pick... 100 Points, Perfection is always expensive.
"Life is short.

Here’s a great deal on a case of perfectly stored Pavie!

100 Points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2005 Chateau Pavie, St. Emilion Premier Cru Classe

13 years in, this 2005 Pavie is drinking really well!

100 points - Wine Spectator
I love the purity of fruit in this wine, with perfectly ripe blackberry, blueberry and raspberry on the nose. Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully polished tannins that caress the palate. Long, long finish. This is not the blockbuster it was from barrel, but rather a complete, balanced and gorgeous red. Best after 2015.

100 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Gérard Perse believes this is the greatest Pavie he’s made to date, although certainly I would argue that list includes the 2000, as well as the 2009 and 2010, among his superstars. This wine, which I had both in the 2005 horizontal report in the Wine Advocate, and at a mini-vertical with Perse at the restaurant Maison Boulud in Montreal, looks to be a 75- to 100-year wine. Dense, opaque purple to the rim, with a gorgeously promising nose of blackberries, cassis, graphite and cedar wood just beginning to emerge, it tastes more like a three-year-old than wine that is already a decade old. This beauty is intense and full-bodied, with magnificent concentration, a majestic mouthfeel and a total seamless integration of tannin, wood, alcohol, etc. Beautifully rich, full and multidimensional, this is a tour de force in winemaking and certainly one of the top dozen or so 2005 Bordeaux. Forget it for another 3-5 years and drink it over the following 50-100 years!
