Lots of Serious Values here at Pop's.
"I'll be highlighting a number of great values I've found over
the last month. More and more, customers are asking for value... And others
are asking for the high end gems... so a few of those emails will be coming
too.
Today I present you with an Outstanding value 2010 Chardonnay called BOXHEAD.
Boxhead is from down under and one of the best value white wines I've tasted
in a long time.
Once a boxhead, always a boxhead. Research suggests a correlation between
square shaped skulls and the production of the finest produce. The squarer
the head the better the wine. But why so many boxhead wine makers in the
wine growing regions of South Australia? A defective gene that has mutated
over the generations; or a 'need to know basis' top secret government plan
for global domination; pumping brain altering chemicals into the air. We may
never know, but what we do know is this; the product of the boxhead
represents some strange ability to create the finest wines.
Hailing from a small micro-climate, the Adelaide Hills in a cool growing
region in Australia comes this GREAT VALUE.... more Chablisienne than a Two
by Four with an irresistible Creaminess. Not a 2 by 4 piece of lumber...
But yet a very seriously creamy with rich, exotic fruit. A lot of wine for
the money.

2009 Bordeaux at near opening/futures pricing.....
..... 92-94 points too!!
As many of you are aware, we did not significantly enter the 2009
Bordeaux marketplace..... Too much uncertainty about high prices and too
much uneasiness about paying upfront. We are beginning to see, in some
cases, a very dramatic drop in prices so that it's time to cautiously jump
in.
We present to you Chateau Monbousquet from the very great 2009 vintage and
priced at near "futures" levels.
“One of the most satisfying and popular wines among wine consumers in all of
Bordeaux is Monbousquet, and even though it is not the best terroir, what
Gerard and Chantal Perse have done with this property, which used to make
wines that tasted like vegetal, watered-down Beaujolais, is remarkable.
Yields in 2009 were 28 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend of 70%
Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon (the traditional
blend here) tips the scales at 14.2% alcohol. Absolutely no new oak is
showing, which is unusual for this wine, but that tells you how concentrated
and textured the fruit is in this vintage. Dense ruby/purple to the rim,
with plenty of exotic black fruits, jammy red fruits, some truffle, roasted
herbs, and incense, the wine is full-bodied, luscious, exuberant, and
opulent. It will be impossible to resist in its youth. This wine should
drink well for 10-15 or more years, given the fact that a recently tasted
2000 was still an adolescent.” $40-$57)

".....it
truly deserves a little recognition!....."
"We have done so well with its big brother, Cabernet, why not start out the
new year with a brand new wine?! The Leese-Fitch brand has been a staple in
our store, with almost 3,000 bottles sold on the Cabernet, I encourage all
you white wine drinkers to try this brand new wine in inventory, the Leese-Fitch
Sauvignon Blanc 2010!
I tried it on a whim because I LOVED the Cabernet, and I was not
disappointed! I haven't been too excited about many wines lately, because
nothing has really wowed me. But after tasting this new Leese Fitch arrival
in our store, it truly deserves a little recognition!
The Sauvignon Blanc is the white wine equivalent to the Cabernet Sauvignon
(so if you liked the Cab, try the Sauv Blanc!). Easy going, with not too
much citrus, this is a great every day drinking wine. The Leese-Fitch
Sauvignon Blanc has more tropical fruits to it, so it really isn't "in your
face grapefruit", like some other New Zealand styles. This wine comes from
California and was created by the outstanding family wine team of Don
Sebastiani & Sons. It even has the same plastic capsule as the Cabernet,
which makes for easy opening and storage!
Sauvignon Blanc drinkers will find this a great $10 alternative to some of
the more expensive whites out there. This would also be a great wine to
serve for guests or at parties. It won't break the bank and it goes down so
smooth! I am raving about this wine to all of my friends, so hurry up and
buy it before it all leaves our store!

“Even better is the 250,000-case cuvee of 100% Zinfandel, the 7 Deadly Zins
2009. This hugely popular wine spends 12 months in both French and American
oak. Sexy and endearing, it offers a deep ruby/purple color, full-bodied,
corpulent flavors and abundant berry fruit, pepper and spice notes. Drink
this seductive, full throttle, classic Zinfandel over the next several
years.
Shrewd consumers should be seeking out the offerings from this value-priced
winery.” ($18)

but this is more about the juicy fruit. Drink now through 2018." ($15)

“Very ripe and very primal still, delivering a large core of
velvety-textured raspberry, fig and boysenberry fruit that is liberally
laced with dark toast, pastis and roasted vanilla. Should settle in nicely
with modest cellaring, as the structure is dense, but polished and
integrated. Drink now through 2011.” ($20)
