“O Rosal, named for a sub-region of Rias Baixas, is the flagship of Bodegas
Terras Gauda, one of the region’s top producers, according to their website.
The addition of Caiño and Loureiro to the blend adds roundness and
complexity to the cutting spiciness that Albariño, the predominant grape of
the region, brings to the table. The resulting combination makes it ideal
for hefty seafood, such as grilled sardines or swordfish.”

“Llopart consistently gets it right because they are one of the oldest
producers of Cava. The Brut Nature category requires the best grapes because
regulations require that sugar, which could potentially mask flaws, may not
be added during dosage. Unsurprisingly, Llopart got it right with this 2015
Reserva. Clean and precise, it refreshes and lingers. The obligatory minimum
of 15 months of aging for a Reserva adds smoothness and complexity. Its
straight spine of acidity makes it a wonderful accompaniment to unlikely
pairings, such as beef carpaccio. It’s hard to find a better sparkling wine
for the price.”

cheap, this one hit the spot.....”
“The interesting thing about wines from Rioja is that they come with at
least a couple of years of age – the “crianza” level requires at least one
year of aging in oak and one year in bottle. The 2014 Bodegas LAN had four
years of aging when I opened it, and it showed.
The wine is made from 95 percent Tempranillo and 5 percent Mazuelo and has
good complexity for the price. There’s lots of ripe berry fruit on the nose
and palate, mainly red but also some dark undertones, punctuated by spice
and herbal notes. There’s a good deal of oak in the mix (perhaps a bit too
much for some), which gives the wine a layer of vanilla sweetness. Soft
tannins make it effortless to drink.
All in all, it was a perfect bottle to enjoy on the fly. In the hit-or-miss
world of wine on the cheap, this one hit the spot.”

list of top Barbera....."
"Rossore is Fabrizio’s brilliant showcase wine to what Barbera can do while
staying in a price point everyone can afford. I know what you're thinking.
'Sure, Barbera is a nice, friendly, crowd pleasing food wine, but its just
not exciting. We totally disagree This Barbera from Fabrizio Iuli makes my
list of top Barbera. It’s opaque and dark garnet in color. With an
earthiness, white pepper, and, cocoa in the nose. The flavors of black
cherry, and chocolate lead to a smooth full finish."

“My personal preference is for Kiwi Sauvignons that are a little less sweet
than this one, but there’s plenty of market research indicating that this is
New Zealand’s most popular style. It is still quite notably acidic, but
there’s just enough residual sugar to keep this from being too “screechy”
for most people to enjoy as a stand-alone sipper. It displays vibrant
grapefruit and green herb flavors that linger on the palate.”

"Those of you, who know me, know that I consider this one of the great values
in California Cabernet Sauvignon. I had the pleasure of trying the new
vintage and I sill stand by my original statement that this Cabernet drinks
like a Napa at a third of the price. This is truly a wine that over
delivers. The tannins are soft enough to drink now, however there is enough
meat for this wine to hold out for 5-10 years.
