This
doesn't get much better......
If you're a Bordeaux fan you know that you're gonna pay $15 and
up for anything resembling decent. You're gonna be being either the 2006 or
2007 vintage. We've always been fond of Chateau Greysac and its always bee a
big sellar here. Imagine our delight when a bunch of the 2005 became
available. Yes.... 2005 a great vintage in Bordeaux. I just "googled" 2005
greysac, the first result brought me to a shop that is charging $22.99 per
bottle! Pay $11+ by the case! Eleven bucks for a very good 2005 Bordeaux....
this doesn't get much better.
"Has a very pretty nose of Indian spices, currant and Christmas pudding.
Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, caressing finish. Best after
2011."

"Very oaky nose but also has sweet briar fruit and vanilla. Very
attractive nose. Blackcurrant, coffee, bitter-dark chocolate and charred
oak. Big, bold," expressive. Drink 2010-13."

"Starts with a delicate floral and mineral nose, which follows
through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with an exquisite, silky texture
and a dense but subtle underlay of creamy mineral. Finely balanced, with
peachy fruit and creamy almond character lingering on the finish. Drink
now." ($19)

Volver has been a star since we first tasted it. The 2007 may be
the best yet. When you consider that Stephen Tanzer is the most conservative
critic out there, the 90 point score is huge! The review says it all....
"Bright purple. Sexy aromas of blackberry, incense and cocoa powder are
complemented by a suave smoky quality. Plush, creamy dark berry flavors
possess plenty of weight but are energized by racy minerality. Chewy tannins
arrive with air, adding grip to the broad, sappy, persistent finish. Complex
enough to enjoy now."

"Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has enjoyed a long run among American
wine consumers but lately a few mumbles and grumbles are surfacing about
"Marlborough’s over the top and somewhat boring Sauvignons." Some people
bore easily. How anyone who likes white wine with flavor and character could
dislike this Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a mystery. The light
gold color is inviting as is the aroma of white peach, tropical fruit and
citrus zest with a subtle herbal back note. The flavors continue the
delivery, balanced with crisp citrusy acidity, great length, 12.75% alcohol
and structure. So, bore me with more." ($23)

One
of the best value Pinots that I've tasted....
This wine is the latest to pass the "Pop's nodding head test."
The nodding head test you ask? At our weekly wine tastings when I taste
something I think is special, I often look around the room. If I see a bunch
of heads nodding I know we've got a winner! I found true Pinot Noir
character, a trait that is often lacking in many American pinots. I found a
Burgundian influence that is almost unheard of....... of course!! it's made
by the Joseph Drouhin family! This is one of those wines that we'd been
selling a enormous amount of but that I never got around to tasting..... "No
wonder we sell so much!" It's rich, yet not bulky and overbearing with
surprising complexity. This is one of the best pinots I've had at a sensible
price in a long time!
"Cloudline is deep ruby red, a sign of its classic Pinot Noir character.
On the palate, the wine is soft and round, with a delightful core of
cherries and red fruits. The structure is perhaps even a bit better than the
much-admired 2005 Cloudline, and the overall fruit-forwardness makes for a
wine that is thoroughly enjoyable now and for the next several years to
come."
