The 17-year-old single malt from Craigellachie was initially matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, and then half of the mix is finished in first-fill sherry casks and the rest in first-fill bourbon casks. The result is aromas of vanilla, dried pineapple, mango and classic Craigellachie malt that fill the nose, complemented by notes of creamy cereals, vanilla pods, black liquorice and charred oak throughout the palate and lingering in the finish.
Craigellachie is a Speyside distillery owned by John Dewar & Sons and one of only 13 in Scotland to still use worm-tub condensers (copper coils in a container that are cooled by a constant flow of cool water to condense the vapor coming from the still). Craigellachie has only begun releasing single malts less than 20 years ago with the first 17 Year Old first released in 2014. The primary use of the whisky from this destillery is for the Dewar's blends.
