Number 17 in the 2017 Top 20 Whiskies of the Year
The delicate flavor of American oak – vanilla, citrus and light oak – rises in prominence as the traditional Macallan European oak character of dried fruit, sherry and wood spice affords a familiar back drop.
The result is a fresh and approachable style of Macallan, rich in flavor, honeyed and indulgent, with a full, viscous mouth feel.
Suitable for all occasions, Double Cask 12 years old will appeal to existing and new Macallan drinkers alike.
Sip or mix this single malt, aged in American and European ex-sherry barrels. Mellow honey and smooth, nutty flavors taper off into a long fade that shows vanilla, citrus, sweet spices and a hint of cocoa. Kara Newman, 12/1/2017.
Number 17 in the 2017 Top 20 Whiskies of the Year
Two oaks are better than one in this single malt, which marries whiskies matured in sherry-seasoned casks of both American and European oak. The sherry imparts aromas of raisins, figs, hazelnuts, blanched almonds, candied orange peel, and leather. A backbone of vanilla sweetness on the palate supports layers of ginger and white pepper, dark chocolate, leather, raisins, toasted hazelnuts, and orange oil. This Macallan joins the core line between the Sherry Oak and Fine Oak ranges. Warming and rich without being syrupy, it doubles up on accessibility with its balance and remarkably affordable price for its quality and age. Susannah Skiver Barton, Winter 2017.
