Alfred Gratien Description

This wine is aged in bottle for four years, though the minimum imposed by law is 15 months. Initially complex on the nose with delicate notes of peach, apricot and exotic fruits. It combines the freshness of white fruit (pear), the maturity of spice (reserve wines, thyme, bay) and the signature maturation in cellars with yeasty aromas (bread, biscuit). The oak is subtle rather than obtrusive.

On the palate the wine has a beautiful base of acidity, and is wonderfully lively from the attack right through to the finish. This is coupled with the wine’s minerality (thanks to the quality of the original juice), revealed by the time spent in barrel. This is balanced by the elegant, fluid vinosity, as well as delicate viscosity. Silky sparkle

A blend of 56% Chardonnay, 24% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir. It’s a refined blend dominated by the fruity Pinot Meunier combined with the elegance of Chardonnay.

James Suckling: 93 Points

This is a fantastic NV Champagne with a fine, creamy texture of small barrels and a deep, layered palate with dried apple, hints of pie crust and bread dough. Tangy. Layered and powerful, yet fresh. Lovely Brut Champagne. Based on 2015. Chardonnay 50% pinot noir 25% and 25% pinot meunier.

Wine Spectator: 93 Points

A rich, mouthwatering Champagne, laced with ground anise, cardamom and ginger spice and offering a juicy profile of blackberry coulis, tangerine and lightly toasted brioche on the fine mousse. There's a vivid and pleasing tension here, driving it through to a minerally finish... Alison Napjus, 12/15/2020.

Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points

With a high proportion of Chardonnay, this is a crisp cuvée. An edge of minerality adds complexity to the Champagne's texture and enhances its white fruits. This fine bottling is ready to drink. Roger Voss, 12/1/2020.

Four generations of the Jaeger family have been the winemakers at this Champagne house. The nonvintage, always the flagship, is dominated by crisp Chardonnay that has been rounded by the wood aging. It is tight and packed with acidity as well as citrus and green apple. Drink from 2019. Roger Voss, 8/1/2018.
