The Friulano grape (formerly Tocai Friulano) is the most typical white wine in Friuli. It is an indigenous grape variety grown in Friuli for hundreds of years, and has become an integral part of the culture and cuisine of the region. It has long been established that the grape is a relative of Sauvignon Blanc known locally as both as Sauvignon Vert and Sauvignonasse. The wine is medium bodied, with ripe, luscious pear flavors carried by a refreshing mineral flavor and zesty mouthwatering acidity. The Friulano grape is also characterized by a slight almond edge. This is also one of the few wines that can stand up to challenging pairings like green beans, artichokes, cabbage, and even Brussels sprouts.
