A blend of 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella.
Amarone Bertani is made from Corvina and Rondinella grapes grown in the Tenuta Novare over calcareous-marl soils in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica. Out of fashion in the 1990s due to its slender style, today it's returning to favour as the benchmark for elegance in Valpolicella. Thus the 2010 shows a complex nose of cigar leaves, leather and fresh raspberry, with a perfectly balanced and velvety palate. Tasted by Aldo Fiordelli (at Tre Bicchieri tasting, Rome, 27 Oct 2018) Part of Best Veneto wines: Expert picks.
Drinking Window 2018 - 2040
A graceful, medium- to full-bodied red, with a deep, minerally core of iron and smoke notes, wrapped in aromas and flavors of dried red currant, orange peel, medicinal herbs and anise. Taut tannins firm the finish, which shows more smoke and spice. Drink now through 2026. 8,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. Alison Napjus, 9/30/2021.
The 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is deceptively fresh and floral at first, deepening further with time in the glass, as earthy minerals give way to savory cherry sauce and hints of camphor. This is silky, almost creamy in feel, with ripe red fruits and spices giving way to hints of licorice and tobacco. A coating of fine tannin lingers, along with notes of cheek-puckering tart blackberry and bitter baker’s chocolate.
For a 2010, this is still very fresh indeed, showcasing sour cherries, red plums, citrus, orange peel and grenadine. Very linear and tangy on the palate, but the muscular tannins provide depth and power. Medium-to full-bodied and medium-chewy on the vibrant finish. Beautifully crafted and expertly shaped. Flag-bearer for the modern style of Amarone. Drink now.
