This perennial best value in Spanish Monastrell, known as Mourvèdre in France, typically has some Garnacha blended in. The pre-phylloxera vines, planted to limestone soils in the cooler area of the D.O. yield grapes which are carefully hand harvested and vinified and then aged in few new barrels, but mostly in 2nd and 3rd passage barrels from elite Burgundy producers.
