Tasting Notes:
The nose is fruity with hints of cherry, coffee, vanilla, and spice. It is full and soft on the palate with complex and well-developed flavors and tannins. Great for everyday drinking, this wine is a great value that pairs well with a wide variety of dishes, such as antipasti platters, grilled white meats, and tomato-based pasta dishes.
The name Dogajolo was invented by Carpineto’s founders, derived from the Italian word doga, meaning “stave” — the narrow strips of wood used to form oak casks. A young wine that boasts fruity aromas with hints of cherry interlaced with coffee, vanilla, and spice. Each varietal is vinified separately in stainless steel in this Sangiovese-based baby Super Tuscan. The blend is briefly aged in oak rendering a medium-bodied red that is soft on the palate with a balanced acidity. Suitable for everyday consumption, Dogajolo is best within a few years of the vintage.
This outstanding, affordable blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon made with grapes grown in dry- farmed hillside vineyards on the Carpineto estate would be a perfect by- the-glass pour for lovers of Super Tuscans. Tart cherry, plum, and lavender lead on the nose and palate as Italian herbs season plush tannins. Delightful.
The nose balances sharp, metallic aromas of graphite and lead with a cherry sweetness, while pepper crackles above it all. The cherries star on the palate, but a bitter orange note underscores a lingering metallic tang, before rustic tannins clear out the mouth while acid sings in the background.
