This Nebbiolo blend has delicious brambly notes on the nose, as well as dark, fleshy blackberries and cherries. The wine has the typical high tannins and high acid of Nebbiolo, but it tastes more similar to a Barbaresco than the other high altittude region Valtellina in neighboring Lombardy. Thus it combines the elegance of a Barbaresco combined with the airiness of a Pinot Noir.
The Valle d'Aosta is a mountainous autonomous region in northwestern Italy between Piedmont, Switzerland and France. Covering an area of 1,260 sq mi and with a population of about 128,000, it is the smallest, least populous, and least densely populated region of Italy. The valley connects Italy and France
95% Nebbiolo(locally known as Picotendro) & 5% Freisa and Neyret
Hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel and then aged for 10 to twelve months in 660 gal oak casks.
This rugged alpine terrain is more suited to the grazing of animals than to the cultivation of the vine, and the vineyards-for the most part on hillsides (see hillside vineyards) on either side of the Dora Baltea before the land rises to impossible altitudes-are frequently terraced into dizzyingly steep slopes.
