96 points

Bright ruby red with delicately brightening rim. On the nose clear and clearly drawn, mountain mint, red apple, raspberry, also remotely reminiscent of red peach. Tightly woven on the palate, with hearty tannin, plus nice juiciness, seems balanced and coherent, keeps coming.

Ceretto Description

“Whoever drinks [our] wines can see the vineyards from which they originated. The vineyard is history, the names of the hills remain, unchanged over time, enhancing the quality and credibility of the wines produced here. You can search for, visit and physically touch a vineyard…always.” – Ceretto Family

One of the top-quality Barolo and Barbaresco producers in Piedmont, Ceretto was founded by Ricardo Ceretto in 1930 and has become famous for being the founder of the single-vineyard Barolo movement. The Ceretto family has become one of the largest vineyard proprietors in Piedmont with now over 400 acres of estate-owned vineyards, mostly located in Langhe and Roero. After growing considerably in the 1970s, the company built two wineries: Bricco Roche, located in Barolo, and Bricco Asili, located in Barbaresco. The wineries were named after vineyard sites in their respective appellations, and were created to produce wines only from those specific vineyards that were chosen in the mid-20th Century. Today, the winery is under the leadership of Alessandro Ceretto, although production is and will be a continuous family endeavor.

James Suckling: 94 Points

Already showing white truffle, plum, and meat on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins that are polished and racy.

Editors’ Choice

A classic! This Barolo opens with aromas of wild cherries, macerated raspberries, drying rose, licorice, clove and subtle earth notes. Refined on the palate, it shows the regal nature of Nebbiolo with its ripe red fruits balanced by savory herbs, tobacco and fine-grained tannins. Drink now–2040. Jeff Porter, 12/1/2023
