In 1861, Charles Krug, the visionary father of Napa Valley winemaking, established the winery that started it all. The Mondavi Family purchased this already iconic estate in 1943, and for over 75 years and four generations they have been passionately perfecting an enduring legacy for those generations still to come.
First produced in 1944, Vintage Selection is the ultimate expression of the Charles Krug portfolio, an elegant, artfully balanced wine that has stood the test of time.
This wine features inviting aromas of sweet currant, toasted pecan, vanilla and cocoa nibs; the flavors are blackberry and raspberry, with a touch of violet and cacao. The elegant, creamy texture of the wine leads to a long complex fruit finish.
Only 1,222 cases produced.
This marries black currant and blackberry reduction flavors with a sleek iron structure and a backdrop of warm earth, espresso and tar. Grippy and tight, but with serious coiled-up energy and a late flurry of violet, bay leaf and savory elements. For the cellar. Best from 2025 through 2036. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 600 cases made. James Molesworth, 7/19/2023.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Family Reserve offers up a compelling mélange of blackberry jam, gravel, cured meats, incense, sweet oak, licorice and cloves. This brooding Howell Mountain Cabernet is going to need a number of years to come into its own. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2034. Antonio Galloni, 10/2021.
