Part of the Madiran appellation south of Bordeaux, Chateau Peyros is located in the heart of the Vic Bilh, or “old country”, in the local dialect. Shaped by Pyrenean moraines, the Madiran region is composed of a succession of south-north oriented valleys. Its multiple slopes have an east-west exposure.
The soil is composed of a conglomerate of rolled pebbles and clay called “pouzzolanes.” Chateau Peyros’s 49 acres of vineyard consists of Tannat (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
Where tradition meets innovation, Chateau Peyros’s cellar, created by Emile Penaud, is one the most modern of the appellation. Fervent supporters of sustainable agriculture, the Lesgourgues family has reduced the use of chemicals by more than 40% since they took over the property.
A straightforward blend of Tannat and Cebernet Franc offers both firm tannins and perfumed black fruits. The wine is powered by its dark, young structure and licorice flavors. Drink from 2025. Roger Voss, 10/1/2022.
