The 2020 Chateau Poesia comes from a great terroir, perched on the heights of Saint-Emilion. There, the clay and limestone plateau on which the vines take root benefits from an ideal exposure to the wind, giving the merlot a superb aromatic complexity. The grape varieties in the vineyard are divided between 70% of Merlot and 30% of Cabernet Franc. The climate is oceanic, ensuring a good supply of water to the vines.
Chateau Poesia was purchased by Helene Garcin and Patrice Leveque in early 2014. The estate was formerly known as Chateau Haut Villet. The name, Chateau Poesia, which is translated into Poet, comes from the family’s property in Mendoza Argentina where they produce wine from 13 hectares of old vine, un-grafted Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1935.
Helene Garcin continues to expand her vineyards. She also owns several other Right Bank estates including Chateau Barde Haut in Saint Emilion and Clos L’Eglise in Pomerol. Helene Garcin was previously in charge of the families’ 2 properties in the Pessac Leognan appellation, Haut Bergey and Chateau Branon. Her brother oversees those estates today.
Chateau Poesia is located in the eastern portion of Saint Emilion on a well elevated, limestone plateau. The vineyards have good neighbors with Valandraud, Chateau Péby Faugères and Chateau Fleur Cardinale close by.
Based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château Poesia has a wonderful purity and freshness in its ripe blue fruits, tobacco, cedar, and spring flower-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it has good acidity, ultra-fine tannins, beautiful overall balance, and just a classy, seamless, incredibly elegant profile. It's another gorgeous wine from this incredible team. March 29, 2023.
The 2020 Poesia is superb, just as it was from barrel. Black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice, cedar and mocha infuse this broad, ample Saint-Émilion with remarkable complexity. This is an especially dense, full-throttle Saint-Émilion, but it all works so well. 12/2022.
The 2020 Poesia opens in the glass with attractively pure aromas of cherries, raspberries, rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, it's vibrant and mineral, with bright acids and a long, saline finish reflecting the shallow soils and limestone bedrock that define this later-ripening site. William Kelley, 4/2023.
Lots of blueberry and blackberry with crushed-stone and limestone undertones. It’s full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that are wonderfully polished. Barrel Sample: 95-96. 1/2023.
