A visionary wine showcasing three varieties that are stellar in our growing region, but not traditionally blended together. This unique combination provides a mélange of structure, fruit and complexity that represents the pinnacle of excellence in Columbia Valley grape growing and Washington state winemaking.
The 2016 Impetus Red Blend is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Malbec and 19% Syrah. After swirling the wine in the glass, it begins to wake up and come alive, offering aromas of juicy black plum, blackberry, cassis and currant with soft oaky tones of oatmeal and black walnut. Full-bodied, the wine is generous and immediately offers flavors of black raspberry, black cherry and elegant oak tones before showing a balanced frame with firm, fine-grained tannins that will add to the longevity of this wine. Concluding with a long, drawn-out finish, persistent flavors of dusty blackberries remain on the palate, offering lingering flavors of black tea and bitter dark chocolate. A marked success, the wine aged for 22 months in 58% new French oak barrels before being bottled. 12/10/2020.
Blackcurrants, mulberries, dried herbs, violets and charcoal on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Structured with a plush, fleshy texture. Peppery, flavorful finish. 6/29/2021.
From: Washington: Neither Smoke Nor Rain Nor Heat Nor Frost of Night… (Dec 2020)
Saturated dark ruby. Sexy chocolatey oak overlays port-like aromas of cassis, black cherry and menthol, with a strong nutty quality emerging with air. Delivers a plush wave of black and blue fruits on the palate, an utterly seamless texture and outstanding inner-mouth sweetness. Dark berries, spices and violet carry through on the very long, chocolatey back end, which features big but buffered dusty tannins. This high-end wine is almost in a show reserve style, privileging texture and sweet fruit, not to mention nutty oak. That's not a complaint in this instance, but the Artist Series blend has more class. (aged 24 months in 100% new French oak). Stephen Tanzer 10/2020

Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 54% of this wine, with the rest Malbec (27%) and Syrah (19%). The aromas are a touch reductive out of the gate, with notes of tar in front of black cherry, green tea, date, vanilla, herbs and earth. Nougat, plum and quite ripe cherry flavors follow, with a lightly creamy feel. Sean P. Sullivan, 9/1/2021.
