Domaine Michelas Saint Jemms Description

100% Syrah

Certified Organic by Ecocert.

Special selection of old vines from 2 different plots on famous “Les Châssis” terroir. La Chasselière is produced from old vines of 30 years old, planted on deep chalky-clay soil with some small round pebbles brought by the
Rhône. As our entire vineyard this vines are worked with eco-friendly methods in order to respect biodiversity and our beautiful landscapes.

The Crozes-Hermitage "La Chasseliere" is made from vines whith average age of more than 30 years. This deeply coloured wine has a great nose of spicy blackberry, prune and liquorice that follows through in the taste. The finish is quite long, rich with soft tannins.

Importers Note:

The Domaine Michelas St Jemms is first and foremost a family story which started more than 50 years ago by Robert and Yvette Michelas in the commune of Mercurol. The future of this 123 acres estate, one of the few independent estates deployed on four Rhone appellations (Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, St. Joseph, Cornas) continues today thanks to the audacity and energy of their 4 children; Sylvie, Florence, Corine and Sebastien. Since their arrival, a new dynamic has emerged: quality requirement in the management of the vineyard as well as in the style of the wines (creation of a range of exceptional cuvées), new experiments via the use of terracotta jars and eggs, and the opening of the winery and tasting room to the general public throughout the year.

Jeb Dunnuck: 93 Points

The 2022 Crozes-Hermitage La Chasselièreis a bigger, richer wine that has a touch of Hermitage-like character in its ripe black and blue fruits, violets, smoked meats, leather, and crushed stone-like minerality. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has the vintage's focused, straight style, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's easily my favorite in the lineup from this terrific estate.
