Famille Brechet Description

About 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache - Our interpretation of the beautiful soil of Lirac. Featuring an intense purple color, this wine develops powerful black fruit aromas and a slight hint of smoke and spice.

Le plateau des chênes is the eponymous name of a former bed of the Rhône river, composed by colluvions from the quaternary era, red clays, sands of the Pliocène and quartzites round pebbles. A nearly twin soil of Châteauneuf du pape. The two are only separated by several kilometers and the Rhône...

Last of the family estates, Le Plateau des Chênes is located on the best terroirs of the appellation Lirac. Thanks to Laurent Bréchet, the family started to grow this vineyard in 2010. Lirac is still unknown as a cru, but it represents one of the up and coming terroirs of tomorrow.

The vineyard is driven by the Vaudieu's team, who is in charge of the winegrowing. The grapes are vinified in our cellars in Châteauneuf du Pape.

Lastly, the 2015 Lirac Plateau des Chenes is the same Grenache-Syrah blend as the 2016, yet offers more Syrah character in its dark fruits, peppery herbs, and earthy/meaty aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, ripe and beautifully textured, it offers a serious mouthful of fruit and is highly recommended. It should keep for 7-8 years. While the Brechet Family is best known for their Châteauneuf du Papes and Gigondas, they make two terrific wines from holdings in Lirac. 10/2017.

Wine Advocate: 90 Points

The 2015 Lirac Plateau des Chênes is a modern, somewhat oaky example of the appellation, but it does combine wonderfully pure cherry fruit with vanilla and cedar, leaving some woody tannins in its wake. Drink this medium to full-bodied blend of Grenache (75%) and Syrah (25%) over the next 5-8 years. Joe Czerwinski, 10/31/2017.
