Nicole Descombes Savoye, known as “the Queen of Beaujolais” took over running the winery and vineyards when her parents passed away in 1993 (Nicole’s father, Jean Ernst, was considered one of the great winemakers of the region). Descombes is the first grower that Georges Duboeuf started working with when he started Les Vins Georges Duboeuf in 1968.
Pomegranate, blood orange, fresh raspberry and dried leaves on the nose. It's medium-bodied with sleek, tight tannins and crisp acidity. Compact with excellent energy. Drink or hold. 4/23/21.
An element of smoke lingers through the currant, blackberry and savory spice details of this brooding, light-bodied red, with accents of graphite and dried herb emerging on the firm finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,500 cases made, 110 cases imported. Gillian Sciaretta, 9/30/2020.
The Descombes family has been active in Morgon since the late 18th century. This wine is richly structured and already well balanced. Black fruits and young tannins are getting acquainted and promising a juicy, full wine. Drink from late 2021. Roger Voss, 3/1/2021.
