Arguably South Africa’s most awarded sparkling wine, our Blanc de Blancs has been recognized on various distinguished national and international platforms, such as the International Wine and Spirits Competition (where it was voted best bottle fermented sparkling wine in the world).
Creating this sparkling wine with 100% Chardonnay, hand selected from the limestone rich vineyards on our Robertson estate, makes our Blanc de Blancs an extraordinary expression of the outstanding Cap Classique terroir characteristics of our estate. Rich, creamy and effortlessly elegant – truly one of our stalwart favourites.
Importers Note:
While the first South African bottle fermented sparkling wine dates back to 1971, Graham Beck has become synonymous with the exceptional sparkling wine being produced in the country since their first vintages in the early 1990s. Robertson (home to Graham Beck and their estate vineyards) is located between the Riviersonderend and Langeberg mountain ranges, receiving afternoon maritime breezes, thanks to a break between the ranges, cooler evenings which offer a respite for the vines. Along with this stark temperature drop, Robertson is the only major South African wine-growing area that is blessed with limestone soils, found on its elevated terraces. Thus, Chardonnay reigns as its signature varietal....
Made in a luxurious and creamy style by the traditional method, this classy and keenly priced blanc de blancs is produced from 100% night-harvested Chardonnay grown on limestone-rich soils, with only the highest quality juice (the tête de cuvée) selected for fermentation. Half of the wine is fermented in 'Piece Champenoise' 205-litre barrels, and the base wine is barrel aged for five months before secondary fermentation. It spends 48 months on lees before disgorgement and bottling. There's lemon-lime citrus freshness, and some green apple fruit, but this is all about the lees, with a brioche, biscuity richness that feels very hedonistic. (Due to go on sale in early November.) Drinking Window: 2021 - 2023. Amy Wislocki, 9/27/2021.
This wine offers ripe apple and lime aromas. Fine bubbles and delicate acidity support sweet notes of citrus fruit, apples and peach on a creamy palate. Jesica Vargas, 4/1/2023.
