Robert Parker writes: "Joel Gott, who is also the proprietor of the enormously successful (justifiably so in my opinion) burger and assorted goodies joint on Route 29 in St. Helena, formerly known as Taylor’s Refresher, knows a trick or two when it comes to winemaking." He also once proclaimed a meal at Taylor's as one of the finest meals of that year in the Wine Advocate!
Joel Gott is a fifth generation wine maker. His grandfather was winemaker and president of Inglenook in the 1960s and 1970s while his father, Cary Gott, is the founder of Montevina and continues to consult for wineries such as D.R. Stephens. In addition to Joel's uncanny blending ability, he has privileged access to many of the best fruit sources in the Napa Valley. In 1996 Joel Gott founded his own winery with his girlfriend, now wife Sarah. She holds a degree in fermentation sciences from UC Davis, as well as having been a wine maker at Joseph Phelps and Quintessa.
Joel Gott wines are therefore remarkable values, offering gobs of classic California fruit, good structure and excellent balance. For a value brand Joel Gott wines have garnered a remarkable number of awards and high ratings, including #62 Wine Spectator Top 100 in 2018 for the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc.
