The Pech Celeyran is an unoaked 100% Pinot Noir which is made by the Jacques de Saint-Exupéry family. It is deep ruby color with the typical nose of ripe raspberries and red cherries and some mineral hints in the back. Good pairings include tuna, mild sausage, goat cheese.
The Château Pech-Céleyran has spent five generations in the hands of the Saint-Exupéry family, which is also famous for “The Little Prince” (written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery). It is in a perfect Languedoc location, about halfway between Beziers and Narbonne. The vineyards and winery are still proudly family owned. Jacques de Saint-Exupéry’s vines are planted in clay and chalk soils on the western slopes of Pech-Céleyran. The “Massif de la Clape,” a range of high, limestone plateaus, which were once an island, dominates the area. Lying just south of the winery, the ‘mountain’ gets its name from the local Languedoc dialect, Occitan’s, term “clapas,” meaning “pile of stone.”
