Royal Tokaji was founded in 1990 by well-known British wine author Hugh Johnson and a small group of investors, including Ben Howkins, who were inspired after the fall of Communism to restore and preserve Hungary's precious wine legacy. Royal Tokaji's ensuing success can largely be contributed to its unique combination of first and second growth vineyards, including one of Hungary's two great first growths: Mézes Mály.
A finely balanced wine where the Furmint grape shows its fine apricot and peach fruit with subtle hints of oak from the Hungarian barrels in which it was matured. A lively wine with crisp acidity, complex and a long finish. This very versatile dry Furmint pairs very nicely with seafood, shellfish, raw oysters, sushi, spicy foods, chicken and most vegetables.
This 100% Furmint has aromas of white flowers, green apple, pear and dried apricot, with flavors of freshly sliced pear and apricot jam. The finish is crisp and clean, inviting you in for another sip. Jeff Jenssen, 12/31/2017
