Pierre Trimbach has rigorously selected two parcels of very old Riesling vines in Hunawihr: one located in the Grand Cru Rosacker, the second in the place called Muehlforst.
Over 70 year old vines from Grand Cru Rosacker and lieu dit Muehlforst, in Hunawihr, both seated on Muschelkalk soil with limestone, facing respectively South-East and South. Old vines 60+ years old from the lieu dit Vorderer Haguenau in Ribeauvillé, also nicknamed the “Little Geisberg” because of their terroir similarities, marl and limestone soil South exposure.
A complex, bewitching Riesling, with a fine acidity, précise and a good length.
Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting the history, exceptional terroirs and fine wines of Alsace. Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. Day-to-day operations are handled personally by brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach, representing the 12th generation. Bernard and Hubert Trimbach, the 11th generation (father and uncle, respectively, to Pierre and Jean) remain integrally involved. Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, has just joined the family business. The Trimbachs have a purist vision. Across 12 generations, the family has always produced wines that are structured, long-lived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. Bottles remain in the cellar for several years before reaching the marketplace, ensuring the wines are both ready to drink upon release but also hold great aging potential.
Rich, mouth-filling and highly structured, this has a touch of exotic aromas (mangosteen!), but isn’t a jot too ripe or weighty. In fact, it has wonderful silkiness, in spite of the considerable mineral power at the imposing finish. Drink or hold.
