This was a difficult year in regards to weather which led to a late and dramatically reduced harvest, Beaujolais experienced its smallest in decades. "The 2021 vintage is a return to basics for Beaujolais," said Franck Dubeouf, of family-owned Georges Duboeuf, the largest Nouveau producer. Over the past decadehotter weather led to with more alcohol. Yet the difficulties early this year and great weather over the summer and early fall led classic characteristics in the Gamay grapes. The wines are generally lower in alcohol, particularly compared with riper vintages like 2015 and last year. "This vintage brings us back to what makes Beaujolais so special," Duboeuf said. "Wines that are aromatic and pleasant to drink."
,Each year, Georges Duboeuf selects an independent artist to feature on bottles of the new vintage of Beaujolais Nouveau. The 2021 winner of this art competition is Felice Kite, of Woodbridge, VA, chosen by popular vote.
Kite’s work will run on the labels of more than one million bottles of Georges Duboeuf’s 2021 Beaujolais Nouveau wines.
Per French law and tradition, the annual release of the new vintage comes on the third Thursday of November — this year, November 18, 2021.
